This one was a doozy. But if there were ever a time to binge-watch 21 seasons, it’s during quarantine, right? if I’m being completely honest, I started watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) before the world shut down. But it did coincidentally give me a lot more time to watch the show. And somehow, I’ve finished it in its entirety and the world feels more turbulent than ever these days. However, it’s not surprising how popular this show continues to be as it’s gone on to span over two decades.
The stories, while many share a lot of the same characteristics, still touch the audience’s hearts. Sexually based crimes reveal a darker side to this world’s harsher realities but detectives like Olivia Benson give us hope for the future. SVU tackles a lot of current issues that are still relevant today. And as time’s gone on, the detectives have become more open and more sensitive towards varied people. That plus the wide variety of guest stars keeps a 20-year-old show from getting stale.
The Best of SVU

With members like Detectives Stabler, Munch, and Captain Cragen leaving the squad, Olivia and Fin are the only OG’s left. Watching Fin mend his relationship with his son and become a grandfather was a great thing to see. I just wish we could’ve seen a little more of it. Olivia becoming a mother has also been great because we’ve all known, as audience members, that she’s always been a natural. And Noah’s pretty darn cute too (and that includes all four actors that played him thus far). The Sheila Porter arc was also interesting to see.
Other than that, I’m excited to see how the SVU will progress because they did just get renewed for another three seasons (!). Let me know in the comments or tweet me @mzsnguyenthai what your favorite episodes and/or moments from SVU are.
